What is selfoss?
selfoss is a multipurpose RSS reader and feed aggregation web application written in PHP and released under the GPL-3.0 or later. It gathers feeds and other sources into a single stream, with an extensible plugin system called spouts. It works with SQLite, MySQL or PostgreSQL. Its last stable release dates from 2022.
Project status: The last stable release listed on the GitHub releases page is 2.19 from October 2022, more than three years ago. The repository is not archived and a 2.20 development snapshot exists, but no newer stable release was found. We list it because it is still available in the Softaculous installer; consider an actively maintained alternative for new projects.

selfoss requirements
- PHP: PHP 8.2 or higher per the current documentation (the 2.19 release notes cite an older minimum)
- Database: MySQL 5.5.3+, PostgreSQL or SQLite
- PHP extensions php-gd and php-http; curl, mbstring or tidy for some features
- Cron job or timer to run the feed update (cliupdate.php or the update URL)
- Apache modules mod_rewrite, mod_headers and mod_authz_core, with .htaccess allowed
selfoss is a PHP application supporting MySQL or SQLite, and it can run on standard cPanel hosting. It needs a scheduled cron task to refresh feeds, and its current documentation asks for PHP 8.2 or higher, so check the release Softaculous installs.
