What is Miniflux?

Miniflux is a minimalist, web-based RSS reader created by Frédéric Guillot. The version offered through Softaculous is the original PHP edition, Miniflux 1, whose repository has been archived. The maintained successor, Miniflux 2, is a separate Go application that needs PostgreSQL and is not a shared-hosting PHP script.

How to install Miniflux on Hostripples: choose a plan, open Softaculous, Miniflux is live

Project status: Softaculous installs the legacy PHP version of Miniflux (Miniflux 1, listed as version 1.2.4 from January 2018). Its GitHub repository was archived on 4 October 2020 and states it is no longer maintained. The current Miniflux 2 is written in Go and supports only PostgreSQL. We list it because it is still available in the Softaculous installer; consider an actively maintained alternative for new projects.

License: AGPL-3.0 (legacy version 1) · Built with: PHP (legacy version 1); current Miniflux 2 is written in Go · Official site: miniflux.app

Common uses

  • Existing installs already running Miniflux 1
  • Learning from a small, readable PHP feed reader
  • Personal minimalist feed reading on legacy setups

Miniflux requirements

  • Miniflux 2 (the maintained successor) requires PostgreSQL and is distributed as a binary, package or Docker image

The Softaculous package is the legacy PHP edition, which is no longer maintained upstream. The maintained Miniflux 2 is a compiled Go program that needs PostgreSQL, so it is not installed as a PHP script on shared cPanel hosting.

Got Questions?

Miniflux Hosting: Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know

No. The legacy PHP repository was archived on 4 October 2020 and states it is not maintained anymore, recommending an upgrade to Miniflux 2. Softaculous lists a January 2018 package, so new projects should prefer an active reader.
The current Miniflux 2 is a Go program that supports only PostgreSQL and ships as a binary, package or Docker image, not as PHP.
Open Softaculous in cPanel, choose Miniflux and complete the install form. It usually takes a few clicks with no manual upload. This installs the legacy PHP edition, not the newer Go-based Miniflux 2.
For a PHP feed reader on cPanel, FreshRSS is actively developed and documents MySQL and MariaDB support. selfoss is another lightweight option. If you specifically want Miniflux 2, it needs a server that can run its binary and PostgreSQL.
Yes. Miniflux is open-source software released under the AGPL-3.0 (legacy version 1) license, so there are no software fees — you only pay for your Hostripples hosting plan.
Yes. Every Hostripples cPanel NVMe plan includes the full Softaculous library, so on one account you can run Miniflux alongside other apps in its category (RSS), such as Tiny Tiny RSS and FreshRSS, plus hundreds of other applications, subject to your plan's resources. You can add each app on its own domain or subdomain and upgrade to a larger plan at any time.
Check the requirements listed above against the plan resources. Every plan can be upgraded at any time, so you can start small and grow.
Yes. We migrate your site for free with all hosting plans.
