Find Your Perfect Domain Name

For a US business, .com is still the safest default and the most recognizable. .us is a clear local choice if you mainly serve US customers (it requires a US connection, the registry's nexus rule). Newer extensions like .online, .shop or .tech can work well for a specific kind of project, but they're a weaker choice if you're building a brand someone needs to remember and type correctly from a business card.

Yes. Search for the first name, add it, then search again and add the next one before checking out -- there's no limit on how many domains go into a single order, and it's the easiest way to grab a few extensions of the same name at once (say, both the .com and the .net) if you want to protect the brand across more than one.

No. You can register a domain on its own with nothing else attached to it, point it somewhere else entirely, or just hold it. If you do want hosting too, ordering both together on the domain offer page applies a discounted first-year price to the domain, but that's optional, not a requirement of registering here.

Standard registrant contact details -- name, address, email and phone -- which the registry requires for every domain regardless of who you register it through. That information is what WHOIS privacy protection hides from public lookup once your domain is active, so you're not exposing it by registering with us specifically.

Yes, you register it with whatever contact details you provide, so it can be your client's business details from the start if that's who should own it. It's worth deciding this upfront -- changing the registrant name later is possible but involves its own verification step with most registries, so it's simpler to get it right at registration.

Our search covers standard new registrations across 500+ extensions. Premium names that someone already owns and is reselling, or aftermarket auction listings, aren't part of that search -- those go through separate marketplaces, and pricing on them has nothing to do with standard registry fees.

Support depends on the specific extension and character set rather than being a blanket yes or no across all 500+ TLDs. If you have a specific IDN in mind, search for it directly or contact support to confirm before assuming it's available the same way a standard ASCII name would be.

The prices in search results and on the pricing page are shown before tax. Whether sales tax applies depends on where you are billed, so it is calculated and shown at the cart step rather than baked into the search result. Nothing is added that the cart does not show you first.

Yes, most extensions let you register for multiple years upfront, which locks in that renewal rate for longer and means one less thing to remember to renew annually. Some country-code extensions cap how many years you can register at once -- if a multi-year option isn't showing for a specific extension, that's usually the reason.

Yes. We send renewal notifications before your domain expires, with enough lead time to renew before it lapses -- a domain that expires and sits unrenewed for long enough eventually becomes available for anyone else to register, so this isn't a formality.

Most registries give a grace period after expiry where you can still renew, sometimes followed by a redemption period with a higher restoration fee before the domain is finally released. Exactly how long each stage lasts depends on the extension, which is one more reason the renewal reminders matter more than they might seem to.

Yes, auto-renew is available from your account dashboard for any domain registered or transferred here, and it's the simplest way to make sure a domain you actually care about doesn't lapse because a reminder email got missed.

Domain registrations are generally non-refundable once the registry has processed them, which is standard across registrars, not a Hostripples-specific policy -- the registry fee is paid the moment the name is registered. If you've made a genuine mistake, contact support and we'll tell you honestly what's actually possible rather than a blanket no.

No. Your domain keeps pointing at whatever DNS settings it currently has throughout the transfer, so your site and email keep working exactly as before. Nothing changes on the visitor-facing side until you deliberately update DNS after the transfer completes.

Yes. You can unlock it and request the authorization code from your account whenever you want to transfer it elsewhere -- there's no lock-in beyond the standard 60-day window after registration or a previous transfer that every registrar follows under ICANN rules.

Yes. DNS management is included, so you can point the domain at your website, email or any other service, add records for subdomains, and change nameservers entirely if you're hosting elsewhere -- registering the domain here doesn't require hosting here too.

Yes, that's a completely normal setup. Point the nameservers at your other host, or keep DNS here and just add the records that host needs -- either way works, and plenty of customers register a domain with us while hosting the actual site elsewhere.

Update the domain's nameservers to point at your hosting account, or add the specific A/CNAME records your hosting plan needs if you'd rather keep DNS managed here. Both work; nameserver delegation is simpler if Hostripples is handling both, while keeping your own DNS records gives you more granular control.

Domain registration on its own includes DNS management, which covers the MX records email forwarding or a mailbox needs -- but the mailbox itself comes from a hosting or email plan, not the domain registration. If you don't already have one, our business email hosting is built for exactly this.

For new registrations, yes -- our bulk domain search lets you check and register up to 30 names in one pass, or upload a longer list as a CSV or text file. Bulk transfers work a little differently since each domain needs its own authorization code from its current registrar; contact support for help coordinating a larger batch of transfers together.

Without it, your registrant details -- name, address, phone, email -- are publicly visible to anyone who runs a WHOIS lookup on your domain, which is a real source of spam and unsolicited sales calls in practice, not a theoretical risk. Privacy protection keeps that information out of public view while the domain still resolves and functions exactly the same way.

Most do, but a handful of country-code extensions have their own rules about what registrant information has to stay public, and privacy protection can't override a registry requirement. If privacy matters for a specific domain, it's worth checking on that extension specifically before you register.

Registrant contact details can be updated from your account dashboard. Changing who actually owns the domain (as opposed to updating the address or phone number on file) is a more deliberate process with most registries, since it's effectively a change of ownership -- contact support if that's what you're trying to do rather than a routine detail update.

The renewal reminders and, if you turn it on, auto-renew -- both exist specifically because an expired, unrenewed domain does eventually become available for anyone to register once its grace and redemption periods run out. A domain you actually depend on for a live website or business email is worth having auto-renew on, not just reminders.

Checkout runs through the same payment processing as every other order on the site, which doesn't store your card details on our end. This is standard practice for any legitimate registrar and not something specific or unusual about domain purchases.

Our support team is available 24×7 by live chat, email or ticket. Domain issues -- a transfer that's stuck, a renewal that didn't go through, a WHOIS detail that needs correcting -- go to the same support line as everything else, not a separate queue that's slower to reach.

Yes -- support can talk through options with you, including which extension makes sense for what you're building and whether a name you're set on is available across the extensions you'd actually want. It's a quick conversation and often saves registering the wrong extension and having to sort it out later.
