What is Firefly III?
Firefly III is a free, open-source personal finance manager that you host yourself. It tracks income, expenses, budgets and different account types using double-entry bookkeeping, with rules, recurring transactions and reports. It is maintained by James Cole and positions itself as privacy-friendly, keeping financial records on your own server.

Firefly III requirements
- PHP: PHP 8.5 or higher per the main-branch composer.json at time of research
- Database: MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL or SQLite (PostgreSQL recommended in the docs)
- PHP extensions including bcmath, curl, fileinfo, iconv, intl, json, mbstring, openssl, pdo, session, simplexml, tokenizer, xml, xmlwriter
- A daily cron job for recurring transactions, automated budgets and exchange rates
Firefly III needs a very recent PHP version (composer.json on main requires 8.5 or higher), many extensions and a daily cron job for recurring items. Confirm the required PHP version is selectable in cPanel before installing.
