What is Bolt?
Bolt is an open-source content management tool written in PHP. The version offered by Softaculous is Bolt 3, built on the Silex framework and Symfony components with a Twig template language. That line is archived by its maintainers, who now develop a separate Symfony-based Bolt core instead.
Project status: Softaculous installs the older Bolt 3 line (version 3.7.1, released July 2020). Its official repository, bolt/bolt, was archived on GitHub on 14 January 2026 and directs new projects to the separate Symfony-based Bolt 5/6 codebase (bolt/core), which is a different product from what the one-click installer provides. We list it because it is still available in the Softaculous installer; consider an actively maintained alternative for new projects.

Bolt requirements
- Database: SQLite, MySQL or PostgreSQL
Bolt 3 is written in PHP and can use MySQL, SQLite or PostgreSQL. Because the Bolt 3 line is archived, newer PHP versions may not be supported, so it is not recommended for new projects.
